Ice Cream Factory - Area 1
You’re going to be attacked by Riddler’s goons right away, and unless you do something about it, they'll keep coming. Go either to the right or left and break up the pile of trash cans and ice cream paraphernalia directly in line with the green vans. You will be left with a build-it that creates a cannon and a valve. Jump on the valve three times and a pink bubble will shoot from the cannon and blow up the green van. You will have to stop periodically to fight off a wave of goons. When you have eliminated the first van, go to the opposite side of the area and repeat the process for the other van.
With both vans gone, there is no longer a source for Riddler’s goons, and you're free to explore the area.
Remember kids; always be suspicious of shifty guys selling ice cream from their van!
There are several things to do in this small area before you move on -- so start exploring. Remember that the general rule for any Lego game is that if it isn’t broken, break it, and collect the studs! Some of the objects in here are shiny and can’t be broken with your strength alone, but you’ll get to those shortly. In the upper left corner of the area, you can break apart the glowing objects and be left with a build-it that will create a suit changer for Robin. You will get the Magnet Suit which you will be using shortly. There is a Riddler Security Door next to you, but you can’t use that until Free Play.
There is no way you’re going to sneak up on anyone in that suit.
Near the back left of this area is a stool and a table. When you break it, you'll be left with another build-it that will repair the ice cream truck. The truck is now available for you to drive, so climb in. The truck allows you to drive over the shiny objects and break them as well to get the maximum number of studs that you can.

Once you have collected everything pos
| Bat Canister 1: When you are through collecting what you can with the truck, take it to the green circle in the middle of the area, while making sure to break up the shiny ice cream cart next to the green circle. Drive the truck onto the green circle and you'll automatically jump out. Assemble the build-it that resulted from the ice cream cart and you’ll have a switch. Pull the switch and the van will lower into the ground and be replaced by a giant ice cream cone. Break the ice cream cone and you’ll be rewarded with a Bat Canister! There are a total of six Bat Canisters in this area, but this is the only one you can get during Story Mode. |
sible in the area, prepare to move on. Use your Batarang to destroy the four yellow hinges on the fence.
When the fence is gone, take care of the goons that come down the stairs in front of you. Your goal is to make the ice cream cones on the left look like the ones on the right. First, go to the switch at the bottom two cones on the left and pull it twice, making both cones have blue ice cream. If you haven’t done it already, take control of Robin and put on the Magnet Suit. This will allow you to walk up the steel wall next to the switch you just used and get to the switch by the top two ice cream cones. Pull this switch twice as well and the cones will have red ice cream.
With this done, the gate covering the hole in the snowman’s belly will open and you’ll be able to move on to the next area, so head on in.
That is one frightening snowman!

Ice Cream Factory - Area 2
Go ahead and break everything you can get your hands on as soon as you get to this grate. You’ll be left with 2 build-its for your fun and amusement. Assemble them both. One will give you a turnstile and the other will leave you with a Suit Changer for Batman; the Glide Suit. Walk against the green side of the turnstile until it stops and you will lower the spewing pipe on the wall nearby.
]
The mean guys across the way can’t get to you yet.
Put on the Glide Suit and fly across to where you see the four goons waiting for you. Quickly eliminate them and set about destroying everything in this area. You should be left with two very small build-its near the end of the partial bridge. Assemble them and the bridge will extend so that Robin can get across.
Now use your Batarang to break the hooks holding up the two large ice cubes nearby. They will fall, break, and leave you with two more build-its. Put them together and you’ll be able to walk up to the two yellow valves. Jump on one of the valves and your partner will automatically jump on the other one. This will stop the steam coming from the nearby pipe so you can move forward.
Be real careful about falling off the edge when breaking the handrails.
Fly around the pink ice cream and then again over the purple ice cream. As soon as you land you will get attacked by a small group of goons, so quickly get rid of them. Hopefully you left Robin in the Magnet Suit. (As a general rule, always keep your character in the last suit you acquired unless this guide specifies otherwise.) Switch to Robin and walk up the steel wall before you. There is a goon shooting at you from a platform and your best bet is to quickly take him down with your Batarang. (Robarang??) Assemble the small build-it on top of this wall and Batman can now get up here using the grapple.
Switch back to Batman. You can glide to the platform on your left and get the studs you can claim from breaking the handrails over there, but that is all you can do there at the moment. You will need another character if Free Play to get past the security door. Float across to the upper platform that the goon was shooting you from to claim the blue stud. The red brick inside the case is only there for you to look at right now; you’ll have to come back for it in Free Play. Now float down to the grate in front of you to help Robin deal with the goons that came out.
We know you want it, but you can’t have it yet.
Before moving to the right to continue, there is a small platform that you can’t see in the foreground. Jump and float from your current location directly away from the case with the red brick. (You will fly toward the TV screen if this were 3D) You will quickly be over top of a small square platform with several studs on it. This is also a “Score Multiplier” area. Gather up the studs and head back to where you were.
Depending on the size of your TV, you may barely see the studs floating at the bottom of the screen.
| XBox 360 Achievement Tip: There is a large fan here that you can use to get back up onto the wall. As Batman, glide back and forth across this fan without touching the ground for 9 seconds and you will get the achievement “Is it a bird? Is it a plane?” worth 10 gamer points. |
Move down the short set of stairs and switch to Robin. The Magnet Suit will allow him to walk up the spiral shaped pipe, collecting studs as you go. When you reach the top you will find a couple of items to break that will give you two small build-its allowing you to complete the brown block nearby. When the block is complete, get behind it and push it over the checkered surface and off the edge. It will break below and form another build-it. Jump down to it and put it together to complete the moving bridge. Use the moving bridge to get across to the arched doorway. Again, use the Magnet Suit to walk up around the outer edge of the arched doorway to get to the switch at the top. Pull the switch to open the door and head inside to the next area.
Are you cold yet?

Ice Cream Factory - Area 3
As soon as you enter you’ll have a couple of goons to take care of real quick and then you can set about your business of breaking things to claim some studs. Ignore the area behind the green gas for now since you can’t get back there in Story mode anyway. Glide across to the next platform gathering the arc of studs alone the way. When you arrive on the other side, gather up what studs you want and go to the turnstile. Push the green side of the turnstile to make the grapple move across to where Robin is waiting. When Robin grapples up to it, push on the red side of the turnstile to bring it, and Robin, over to you.
With him safely on your side, jump up onto the nearby valve and the slope will flip over and turn into stairs allowing Robin to go up to the next platform. When he gets up there he will step on another valve so that the incline continues to be in stair form so that you can get up there too.
Working together as a team!
Eliminate a couple of goons and break whatever you can. There are four floating discs you have to cross to get to the next platform. They will sink as soon as you land on them so their only purpose is to serve as a jumping point. As soon as you land on one you will need to jump immediately again, but as Batman you can glide most of the way across anyway.
On the other side you will have a couple more goons to take out and then you can slide down the incline on the other side. The switch at the bottom of the incline will create stairs so you can get back up but you most likely won’t need it. You now need to target the spouts over top of the two large vats with your Batarang to break them off. This will cause the vats to fill with red liquid. When they are full, climb in the freeze cannon up on the platform and freeze the red liquid and create a path for you to get across. The goons from off in the distance will start to come after you once you’ve frozen the liquid, but the freeze cannon you are currently in can quickly take care of that issue.
You can also use the Batarang to take care of those goons.
Now head across the path you just created over to where the goons came from. When you’ve reached the next platform, switch to Robin and walk up the steel wall on the right to get to the switch at the top. Destroy the goons and flip the switch. This will raise the grapple to its highest point and you can now drop down from the switch and grapple up to the landing above.
Just one small puzzle from a boss fight!
At this point you have a choice depending on how many studs you want to collect before moving on to the boss fight. You can move across to the left side of the landing and take a ladder down and follow the platforms across the back wall of this area to pick up some extra studs, but you won’t be able to get any of the collectibles down that way until you play in Free Play. You’ll gain about 4,000 studs for doing so. For the purposes of the Story mode section of this guide you’re just going to move on to the boss fight from here.
First, push the blue and brown box up the checkered path all the way up to the wall. This will remove one steam blast from your exit. Next go over and jump on either the red or the brown switch with the studs over it. Your partner will automatically jump on the other one and the remaining steam will be removed from your path. You can now exit this area and proceed to fight Mr. Freeze!
Ice cream just isn’t sounding like such a good idea anymore.

Boss Fight: Mr. Freeze
Fighting Mr. Freeze head on is a complete waste of time. You can’t get a shot in on him and he will succeed in beating you down quite quickly. He alternates back and forth from using his Freeze Gun and just plain fighting. If you should get frozen, wiggle the left stick back and forth and you can shake your way out of the ice block. The best way to hit Mr. Freeze is to quickly switch back and forth between characters. When you are getting attacked, try to get your partner positioned behind Mr. Freeze and then quickly switch characters and hit him in the back. It takes some practice, but once you get it figured out you’ll be taking him out in no time.
You wouldn’t think he’d be that fast in that big giant suit.
After a couple of hits, Mr. Freeze will retreat to the far platform and flip a switch turning on a giant fan underneath the platform he is on. Quickly assemble the build-it in the middle of the room and you will create another cannon much like the ones you built at the beginning of the level. Same as before, jump on the valve 3 times to shoot the pink bubble and blow up the fan. Amidst all of this you will also need to fight off Mr. Freeze’s goons.
Mr. Freeze will not be happy about you messing up his fan, so he’ll come back down to do battle with you face to face a little bit more. Again, get a couple of hits on him and he will retreat back up to his perch again. This time he will release some of that red liquid and it will fill up the two vats on either side of the room. There is a green disc floating in each one. If you aren’t already, switch to Robin and walk up the steel plates to get onto the vats. Jump onto the green disc and then again to the other side to the switch. Pull the switch to release a build-it kit on the floor. When you have finished that, head over to the other vat and repeat the process. In the midst of fighting off goons, try to make some time to put together the build-its and you will end up with a brown box on each of the two checkered areas. Push each box all the way to the end of the area (while continuing to fight off goons) and a giant ice cube will fall on Mr. Freeze and force him back down onto the floor with you. As you have been doing, continue the process of changing characters and hitting him in the back and this time you will take him down for good. Congratulations on beating Mr. Freeze!
Now that wasn’t so bad, was it?
That Riddler is such a joker!
