Story Walkthrough

“Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, AKA the Penguin, is a devious crime boss who is seldom seen without one of his trick umbrellas. He can use an umbrella to glide, and keeps penguin bombers under his hat, which can be dispatched at will.”

There are a considerable number of enemies to deal with here, so take the time to get rid of them all before doing any exploring. When you think you are done with them, you just might get some more, so keep your eyes open. When you finally have peace, destroy everything around you to gather studs. Be sure to take careful note of two little “seeds” that you will discover on the left side of the area and be sure to plant them to get a “1/3” carrot. When you have it, assemble the build-it near the ramp on the right and climb up the resulting ladder to equip the Glide Suit.

This is very easy to miss if you don’t go looking for it.

Go up the ramp and use the Glide Suit to fly across the water to the other side. Defeat the many enemies waiting for you there and then set about destroying everything you can find in this area. Again, look very carefully in the front right side of this section for some more seeds on the ground that area somewhat hidden by the fence. Plant them to get the “2/3” carrot.

Most people don’t catch these the first time through.

Now assemble the build-its you should have found near the red cannon looking device. The build-it will complete the device. You can now jump on the green platform of the device and it will inflate the raft on the edge of the water. Jump on the platform three times to fully inflate the raft and it will drop into the water so Robin can again join you up on dry land.

to be cold!

Now use the Batarang to destroy all of the icicles that are hanging off the front of the small building. When you have knocked them all down there will be a build-it lying in front of the ice blocking the door of the building. Assemble the build-it and you will have created a heater that melts the ice, allowing you to access the inside of the building. Equip the Water Suit that you find inside.

We don’t envy the dude that has to scuba dive in that stuff.

Now look in the water to the right. Look for a small ring of gold studs in the water, just below the ledge with the canister on it. You should barely be able to see the flashing red light of a switch at the bottom of the water. Use the Water Suit to go down there and activate the switch which will raise a bridge so Batman can cross the water to the other side.

You can’t get the canister on the small building yet, but you will get the one on the ledge over the water.

Defeat the enemies when you get to the new piece of land, being sure to rescue the hostage that is being held here. Destroy everything in the area, making sure to get the set of three trees just to the left of the tunnel you are going to exit through. This will reveal a grapple you can use to climb up and then quickly glide to the left to access the ledge with the canister on it.

You’ll get two canisters and a hostage all on this one small piece of land.

Before going into the tunnel to the final boss fight, look to the right of the tunnel entrance for the last set of seeds. Plant them for the last carrot and the reward of a canister. With this in hand you can now enter the tunnel for your final hero fight of this story.

Free Play Memorabilia

Right at the beginning of the mission, use the Sonic Suit to break the ice over the small water hole. You should easily be able to see the canister beneath the ice. Once you have broken all the ice away, simply jump in the water to claim the canister.

In the first section of water, after you have blown up the raft, choose Dr. Freeze and stand on the raft. Face the shiny grate in the back wall here and use the Freeze Gun to make a platform in front of the grate. Hop over to the platform and use the Demolition Suit to destroy the grate and claim the canister inside.

On the rocks to the left of the small building, use a super jump character to get up onto the bars there. From there, jump to the right onto the roof of the building to claim the canister floating up there as well as the studs.

Boss Fight: Duck, Duck, Penguin

Before you can focus real hard on the boss fight, set about grabbing the couple of collectible items you can get in here before you win the fight and end the mission. As you enter the area, come toward the front of the area and jump into the water. Hop up onto the rock you’ll find in the middle of the water and claim the canister sitting on top of it.

This should be the last of the cold water for this mission.

Now return to dry land and get ready to fight. There is another canister you can get before you finish this battle, but you are going to have to make a little progress first. The first thing you need to do is get Catwoman to leave you alone and get back up on the ledge with Penguin. Give her a few smacks and she’ll go running for cover pretty soon. Fight off any additional enemies that went with the attack and go to the turnstile in the middle of the room. Turn it slightly in either direction. This may take a couple of tries but the targets you need to hit only need a “horseshoes and hand grenades” ability to aim. Use the Batarang to target the orange spinning gears above and behind the Penguin. When they are hit, Penguin will get a shock which, as you would imagine, annoys him a little. Penguin will release one of his exploding Penguins off the edge of the ledge toward the center of the room. With any luck, when you turned the turnstile, you directed it so that when the exploding penguin deflects off of it, it will head into one of the four alcoves and destroy the penguin treadmill inside. Run into the alcove and destroy the remaining device by hand to claim the studs.

Don’t feel bad if the exploding penguin misses, he’ll throw another so you can adjust the turnstile.

After you destroy an alcove, Catwoman will come down for another short battle with you. Take care of her and any goons she sends with her to make her retreat back up to the ledge again. Repeat the process of targeting the spinning gears and adjusting the turnstiles to direct the exploding penguins to destroy the alcoves until all four alcoves have been destroyed. At this point, Penguin will come down to face you himself for a few blows. Knock a couple of hearts off his health and he will begin to fly around the room. Ignore him for now. Target the transformers with the red lights that are directly over each alcove with the Batarang. When you destroy all four of them, a canister will appear underneath the ledge that Penguin and Catwoman have been standing on.

Claim this last canister and you can set about finishing this fight.

With the collection of goodies complete, it’s time to finish off the Penguin. To knock him down from his flight, target him with the Batarang and he’ll fall to the floor so you can get a few more notches in his health. He’ll get back up and fly some more, but simply hit him again with the Batarang to knock him back down and continue the beating, taking care of any goons that show up in the process. Repeat this procedure until he is beaten and you have finished the mission and the second hero story of the game.

On the far left very near where you came into the area is a shiny round hatch in the wall with green toxic goo pouring out of it. Ironically, switch to Penguin and send an exploding penguin through the goo to destroy the shiny hatch. Change to a character that is immune to the toxic goo and claim the canister you find behind the hatch.

From where you picked up the last canister, go directly to the far right. You need nothing more than a super jump character to hop up and grab the canister sitting on the ledge.

Just to the right of the furthest alcove to the right is a glass door in the wall. Use the Sonic Suit to destroy the door and enter the secret room behind it. On the back wall in this new room are two panels you can destroy that will leave red hot pieces on the floor. Use the Fire Protection Suit to assemble them and claim the final canister for this mission.

Before you leave this room there is one last collectible to find in this room and there is a bit of a procedure to it. Use the grapple to the right of the canister you just claimed and then glide over to the bar on the wall to the right. This will lower the bar and release two penguins from the ceiling that will begin to run on two of the treadmills. Drop down and get onto the furthest treadmill and run on it until all three of the lights next to it turn green. When they are all green, run to the far right and jump on the silver switch to make the re Power Brick appear nearby. This brick unlocks “Bats”.

Minikits

Minikit 1: Use the sonic suit to break the ice and get the canister in the water. (Batman)

Minikit 2: First destroy all the pieces around the big pump. Then build the pump and jump a couple times on the green button to make a rubber boat. When the boat is finished, stand on it and use Mr. Freeze to create an ice block. Blow up the metal gates and get the canister. (Mr. Freeze, Demolition)

Minikit 3: Jump on the bars next to the house with (for example) Ivy and jump on the roof. (Double Jump)

Minikit 4: When you get to the next area, go towards the water and you'll see a little ooze pool. Send a pinguin to the metal bars with The Penguin and get the canister with an ooze character. (Penguin, Ooze character)
