Bartman Begins
Duff Beer Tops: 6
Krusty Coupons: 6
Videogame Clichés: 2
Begin as Bart. Jump across the small chasm and pull out the Sling Shot. Use the L1 button to destroy the wooden crate, just in case it’s moving around too much for you. Right away, you’ll get your first Videogame Cliché of the episode,
Before going anywhere, switch to Homer and grab the Duff Bottle Top at the base of the giant statue on the left. Now, have Homer stand on the pressure pad on the left of the short set of stairs (the one indicated by the blue marker). Switch to Bart and go up the stones that the pressure pad had activated. When you get to the platform, leave Bart there and go back to Homer. As Homer, stand on the other pressure pad to activate more stones for Bart to climb. Switch back to Bart without stepping off the pressure pad and the stones will stay in place. You can now climb all the way up to the top to stand on the -- uh --breasts of the giant statue. (“T” for Teen allows for gigantic stone boobs with flat spots you can stand on.) From this vantage point, you’ll see below the small platform you can glide down using Bartman’s cape. Jump off the edge toward the platform while quickly pressing and holding the R1 button to glide down on the small platform.
Step on the pressure pad here and you will open the bridges to either side, so that Homer can get to you and both of you can continue across. On the other side, after the short cut-scene ends, stand on the left pressure pad. This will open a hidden door in the wall on the left that will allow Homer to access a hidden Duff Beer Top.
Another Bartman skill is his ability to climb. As you look at the museum, climb the vines on the wall to the left, first. At the top of this set of vines in a niche in the wall is a Krusty Coupon for you to claim. Once you have it, float back down and climb the vines on the right. When you reach the top, drop down to the outcropping and you’ll see yet another Krusty Coupon. Claim it and jump over to the ledge above the museum window.
Once on the ledge, there are two pressure pads here that have to be activated simultaneously. At the moment, Homer can’t get up, so give him a hand and stand at the blue marker. Kick the bounce pad off the ledge by pressing the triangle button and Homer will join you on the ledge. Once Homer is with you, stand on either pressure pad and Homer will automatically stand on the other one. This action will give you the second Videogame Cliché of the episode and another brief cut-scene that takes you into the next section.
Now you’re in the museum proper and your first order of business is to take care of the security guards who don’t appreciate your heroic efforts to wreck, er, save their museum. Which character you use to eliminate the guards is entirely up to you; it all depends on what attacks you prefer. Playing as Bart, we found it easiest just to run around while Homer took care of them. Call it “Passive Defense” if you want. Once the guards are no longer on your back, go up either of the short sets of stairs found under the area you came in, which brings you back to the window looking out into the cave, where a Duff Bottle Top is here for Homer to pick up.
If you need to charge up Bart’s power meter, you can get more crystals by breaking the trash cans in the large room. Getting to the next area requires solving another two man puzzle. Have Homer climb the ladder up to the T-Rex skeleton and stand on his head. This will cause the tail of the T-Rex to rise up. When this happens, Bart can stand on the tip of the tail and float down to the blue marker to get to the next area of the museum.
Again, more guards, but dropping down into the next room will open the doors that allow Homer to follow you in. Between the two of you, you can probably get rid of them pretty quickly. Once the room has quieted down and you can explore in peace, be sure to pick up the Krusty Coupon lying in the display with the dinosaurs. Once you have it, you can proceed on to trap Dolph.
Find the switch next to the volcano display and activate it. This will cause steam to rise from the volcano, which by using a jump and R1, Bartman can float on the steam. Glide over to the pterodactyl wings that will bounce you up twice, so that you hang on a wire above the floor. Slide across the wire and, at the other end, you will drop down onto the top of the trees in the dinosaur display.
Jump to the top of the highest tree and pull out the Sling Shot. Use the L1 button to take aim at the target under the “When Herbivores ATTACK” sign. A single shot will bring down the bones that will trap Dolph underneath and knock open the doors that will lead you to the next area. Of course, this racket will alert a couple more guards, so take care of them as well. Shoot them from your vantage point on top of the tree with the Sling Shot. As you go through the hallway, one more guard wearing a silly hat will come after you, but he is just as easy to take care of as the others.
When you reach the end of the hall, there are some more trash cans here if you need to power up. The point of interest here is the “Zap the Past” display on the right. In it you will find the RoboBart power-up. Grabbing this makes Bart temporarily stronger and invincible, and gives him a laser that will fire through glass. Ironically enough, the next thing you have to do is fire at the switch to open the next door -- on the other side of the glass. Doing so will bring on the wrath of a couple more guards, so quickly get rid of them and try to avoid the lasers that Kearney is shooting at you from behind the glass in the diorama.
When the guards are out of your way, you can now focus on Kearney. Since the RoboBart power-up has such a short life span, you will notice that there are more of them available to pick up. One is conveniently placed just to the left of the diorama. Grab it and begin the process of chasing Kearney through the diorama. In this first section, just hit the targets in order from left to right, and Kearney will be chased out the right side into the next area. Doing this will open the door to the next section of the diorama and send three guards after you. Eliminate them and move on.
In the next part of the diorama, you have to run through Kearney and figure out the order in which to shoot the targets. Hit the second target first to lower the bridge, and then hit the first target to cause the gladiator to chase Kearney across the bridge. Once Kearney thinks he is safe behind the cart, hit the third target and it will chase him off into the last section of the diorama, triggering five more guards.
Eliminate the guards and grab another RoboBart power-up to clear out the last diorama. This section comes complete with unnecessary targets, so you’ll be skipping a couple. Shoot the first target to send Kearney running. Skip the second and third targets and shoot the fourth to make the donkey kick and chase Kearney through the fence. Finally, shoot the fifth target to make the cavalry chase Kearney behind the TNT barrel and shoot the sixth target to make the cannon shoot the TNT. This final target will blow a hole in the wall at the end of the diorama and Kearney will now be out in the hall with you. At this point, a couple shots from RoboBart (feel free to go back and power up again, it respawns) and Kearney is down for the count. You can now switch to Homer and grab the Duff Bottle Top inside the diorama next to the washtub guy.
You’re moving on now to the final section of the episode: the Planetarium. Before leaving this lobby, look in the center of the round information desk and grab the Krusty Coupon tucked in the middle of it.
Walk through the tunnel of stars into the Planetarium. There will be a quick cut-scene, then four guards you must quickly get rid of. The objective is to get up on top of the spaceship and knock out Jimbo, which will take only a little bit of work (note: that there are four collectibles in this room, and if you want them you must get them before you knock Jimbo out, otherwise you're forced to play through the level again.)
Head to the left as you come in the room and use Bartman’s ability to climb on the moonwall. Grab the Krusty Coupon at the top of the wall. From the Krusty Coupon, move over to the rocket blowers and use Bartman’s ability to float to get out to the second blower. When you stand on it, switch to Homer and go over to the blower from the ground and push the switch to get it running. Switch back to Bart and float the rest of the way over to the upside-down space shuttle. You’ll notice a Duff Bottle Top but Homer can’t get it quite yet.
At the nose of the shuttle, there is a pole you can jump to and grab hold of. Doing so will lower the bottom of the pole so that Homer can use it in a few moments to get the collectible. Turn Bart around the pole and jump off onto the planet with the orbiting moon. From there jump to the second planet with two moons, trying not to be knocked off by the moons. From the second planet, jump to the satellite then from the satellite onto the walkway around earth. Once on the walkway, walk around to the left side of earth and grab the Krusty Coupon near the satellite at the end of the walkway.
If you’re going for all the collectibles, switch to Homer now. Go to the pole that Bart lowered a few moments ago. Climb up and jump onto the space shuttle to grab the Duff Bottle Top. Once you have it, follow the same path Bart took to get to the walkway around Earth. Homer’s final collectible will be around the right side of Earth next to the satellite that ends the walkway in that direction.
Nothing left to do now but knock out Jimbo. Using whichever character you like, make use of the moving UFO platforms to get up to the spaceship Jimbo is camped out on. Avoid his lasers and when you jump onto his ship, the glass dome will open and Jimbo will jump off the top and onto the Planetarium floor. When Jimbo is on the floor, go down there with him and use the character of your choice to take him down. It doesn’t take much to get him down but avoiding his lasers makes it a bit more challenging. Once Jimbo is down, the episode is over and you will get the final cut-scene.
