Simpsons Game Walkthrough: Episode 8- Shadow of the Colossal Donut

Shadow of the Colossal Donut

For any of you that played the demo, this episode is going to be real familiar: the big giant donut man. Since there is only one objective for this episode, we're going about this one a little bit differently. We'll lead you around to find all the collectibles first. Once they’ve all been listed, we'll give you the strategy for defeating Lard Lad.

550x275
“Bart Simpson, are you and your father insane?”

Duff Bottle Tops: 9

Krusty Coupons: 10

Videogame Clichés: 1

All throughout this episode, you’ll be chased around by little Krusty Dolls. Lard Lad is bringing them to life by shooting his lasers at Krusty billboards. For the most part, these little guys are just an annoyance. They are easy to defeat, but standing around trying to kill them all is futile. Often, just running away from them is the best policy. When they Krusty Doll crowds get particularly thick, just switch to Homer if you aren’t already and give them a Homer Ball Smash to clear them out.

Begin as Homer and turn immediately to your left when the level starts. There is a Duff Bottle Top on the Krustylu Studios sign. It’s low enough for you to just jump up and grab it.

550x275
Lead Lard Lad away from you and come back if you’re having trouble working around him.

Go around the big hole in the street and look for the Home of the Colossal Donut (orange and blue building on the left. Find the dumpster on the side of the building to bounce up onto the roof and grab the Duff Bottle Top from behind the AC ducts.

550x278
Take a break from dumpster diving to go dumpster jumping.

In the alley behind the Home of the Colossal Donut you should find a small ledge that you can climb to find the next Duff Bottle Top.

550x278
This ledge almost looks like solid wall; look at it carefully.

Go back to the main street and continue forward all the way to the other end of this map. You’re looking for the Frying Dutchman restaurant which has a giant pink rotating fish sign outside of it. The Duff Bottle Top you want is on top of the sign. Use the helium tank at the bottom of the sign and float up to get the collectible. Tap the X button to make Homer float up to where you need to be.

550x278
This can be a lesson in frustration, but you’ll get it.

Just a short way up the street from the fish sign, on the opposite side of the street, look for the Adult Education Center. Use the dumpster next to the front door to bounce up to the roof. On the roof, turn immediately right and climb onto the roof of the next building. The Duff Bottle Top is right there on the AC unit.

550x278
“Collect all of me!”

Continue all the way to the end of that street and look for the Grease Recycling Plant on the left. The building sits right on the water, so walk around the side of it and you’ll see the little docks and a collectible for each character sitting on them. Use the log pilings to jump out to the Duff Bottle Top.

550x278
You might drown once or twice, but you can make it.

Now return to the large construction area where you began this episode. Next to one of the cranes is a bottle of helium. Use the helium to float up to the pipe hanging from the crane and you can get a Duff Bottle Top inside the pipe.

550x163
It almost looks like isn’t going to fit in that pipe.

Return to the same helium tank and use the helium to get up on the partially constructed building behind you. Get to the lower platform where you will find yet another helium tank. Fill with helium again and float all the way to the top of the structure to find a Duff Bottle Top sitting there.

550x278
Pay attention and listen. It’s pretty funny when Homer talks while he’s full of helium!

Once more, go back to the crane where the helium tank is, but this time jump onto the dumpster to get up on top of the crane. The last Duff Bottle Top is on the arm of the crane, so just walk up and grab it. This should give you the trophy for collecting all the Bottle Tops in this area, but before you switch to Bart, do him a favor -- go to the front of the Springfield Correctional Facility nearby and use the Homer Ball Smash to destroy the fire hydrant in front of it. Bart will need that shortly.

550x163
Help a son out!

Switch to Bart and you can begin the hunt for the Krusty Coupons. Leave the spray from the fire hydrant Homer just smashed alone for now. You’ll get to that one last for good reason. Go across the construction site back to the Home of the Colossal Donut. In the alley behind it you will see a wall you can climb. Climb to the top of it to find a ledge with a Krusty Coupon on it.

550x278
Compared to collecting stuff in this episode, defeating Lard Lad is going to be quick!

Jump back down off the ledge and head up the street again toward the Frying Dutchman restaurant as you did with Homer. Just before the restaurant you’ll see the big orange building with the nuclear reactors. As one would expect, this building is the Springfield Youth Center. Enter the area in the midst of the nuclear reactors and look for a clock on the wall. Bartman can grapple to the clock with the Δ (triangle) button and land on the ledge beneath it. Follow the ledge around the building and you’ll find the next Krusty Coupon at the end.

550x163
“Building unrealistic hope since 1966.”

Jump off the ledge and head up the street past the spinning fish sign, and back to the Adult Education Center. Use the dumpster to jump up on the roof. Walk to the other side of the roof and look right and down to see the next Krusty Coupon on the awning below. Float down and grab it.

550x278
“Believe in yourself, Bart, even if I don’t!”

The awning you are now on is in an alley. Run down to the bend in the alley and you should see a wall you can climb. Climb the wall, jump and hang from the gray ledge on the wall and shimmy all the way around the building until you get to the Krusty Coupon on the awning over the front door of the Ritz Hotel for Transients.

550x163
This hotel is a chain.

Go back around to the street with the spinning fish sign and find the greenish/yellow warehouse just up the street from the sign. On the side of the warehouse nearest the fish sign, use the dumpster to jump to the lower roof, then the mattresses found there to get to the top. Go left when you are on the main roof and walk around the end of the building to find the next Krusty Coupon.

550x278
Keeping mattresses on the roof keeps mice from chewing on them.

From this building you can float to the roof of the next building (Grease Recycling Plant) and go to the right to find another Krusty Coupon. If you miss the other roof when trying to float over, there is a dumpster in the alley below that will bounce you up where you need to be.

550x163
You have options here.

From here, walk around to the other side of the Grease Recycling Plant and look down to the docks below and you’ll see the next Krusty Coupon. You passed over this collectible earlier to get Homer’s Duff Bottle Top. Just drop down and get it.

550x278
If you were thinking ahead, you grabbed this one while you were picking up Homer’s collectibles.

Once you have that collectible, return to the construction area where you started. Look for the three pipes stacked into a pyramid near Krustylu Studios. Jump up into the top pipe to get the Krusty Coupon.

550x275
GTA San Andreas, construction site next to the San Fierro garage, weapon spawn in a drainage pipe -- sound familiar?

Go up the street a short way and across from the Home of the Colossal Donut you’ll see a dumpster next to a “blinged out” white SUV. Use the dumpster to bounce up onto the incomplete structure. Turn to your right when you get up there and you’ll see the Krusty Coupon sitting near the edge.

550x278
That is one PHAT ride!

Now you are going to see why we saved this next collectible for last. Go to where Homer smashed the fire hydrant in front of the Springfield Correctional Center earlier. Use the water blast to float up to the guard platform above. From there jump down into the prison yard. This will now add aliens into the mix of things that chase after you during the course of this episode. Go around the corner on the other side of the weight lifting benches and you’ll find this last Krusty Coupon near the end of the alley. Return to the main area when you’re done in here by using the dumpster below the guard platform you came in from. Leaving the prison does not stop the attacking aliens. You are stuck with them for the remainder of the mission, or you can restart the mission if you choose and defeat Lard Lad without having to alert the aliens.

550x163
Trying to figure out the connection between prison and aliens will just give you a headache.

Now that you have everything they’ve hidden about, it’s time to get to the actual objective of this episode. Lard Lad is best defeated using Bart, so there was just a little bit of forethought used when deciding to look for his collectibles second. In order to defeat Lard Lad you must catch him when he doesn’t know you’re there. If you need to, run around the map until he has lost you and then find somewhere you can come up from behind him. If he sees you, he will want to kill you, and there is no chance he'll let you get behind him. When you get behind him, equip the Sling Shot and target the hatch on Lard Lad’s butt. Shoot it and the hatch will open and Lard Lad will be temporarily stunned. Climb up onto the open hatch and press Δ (triangle) near the electronics to cause your first painful blow to Lard Lad. Accomplishing this will also give you Videogame Cliché #13.

550x163
What game would be complete without crawling up a giant donut guy’s butt?

This takes away a third of Lard Lad’s health, but it also annoys the living hell out of him, which will cause him to run away from you. Wait for him to settle down and start walking again. You need to do the same thing to Lard Lad again, only this time the hatch is in the middle of his back and once you open it, you can’t jump to it from street level. Getting this done is going to require a little pre-planning and some patience. Find a place on a roof or platform near his general vicinity. Try to stay out of his view so he isn’t looking for you. If he spots you, simply step away from the edge of the roof and he will lose sight of you. When he turns away from you, target the hatch on his back and shoot it. If you planned right, he’ll be stunned with an open hatch in a position you can jump to. Again, damage his electronics.

550x278
We're having flashbacks of Ghostbusters and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man.

Lard Lad is looking a little peeved.

One more time and you’re going to put Lard Lad out of his misery. The last hatch will be on the back of his head. Again you are going to need to wait for him to settle down and find another high spot you can target him from. Repeat the procedure of shooting the hatch, floating to it and damaging the electronics, and you’ll bring Lard Lad down to end the episode.

“Celebrity deaths and monster hatches always come in 3’s.”

“Oh Homer; try to show a little dignity in victory.”
